Blut Aus Nord/P.H.O.B.O.S-Triunity

Two of France's most legendary heavy bands, both operating on the fringes of their respective genres, crushing the weak and making people realize the monolith of their own humanity. This new split Triunity demonstrates the triumph behind both of these acts as they rage forth, with a sort of inner darkness that tears the soul to shreds. Both sides feature epic compositions and majestic soundscapes. Both of these bands are at the top of their game, and their is no way that either of these groups can be done here, we just have to hope, desperately, for more from these two great bands.

Blut Aus Nord's sides of the split (Side A) shows us a lot of the sheer darkness of the band as they push boundaries. Perhaps my favorite song off their side is the first, De Librio Arbitrio, which features some very interesting guitar lines and really engages the listener, dragging them into the sunlight of black metal annihilation. Meanwhile, P.H.O.B.O.S's contribution to Triunity is equally admirable, three songs that break the boundaries of what industrial doom metal can be, inspiring the listener to fall into a sort of pit of soul crushing darkness and despair. The use of vocal effects creates a haunting sound for P.H.O.B.O.S and provides evidence the band won't stop bringing crushing doom offerings for a while yet.

Perhaps what strikes me the most about Triunity though is that neither side is objectively better or worse than the other. Both bands are very different, and as opposed to many splits where one band clearly did more effort than the other, both Blut Aus Nord and P.H.O.B.O.S show off some of their best stuff so far. This split is truly epic and allows these two startling and unique French acts to really shine, roaring like unholy stars, crossing all barriers and bursting forth, masters of their own reality. Let yourself fall through, and fall in love, with the incredible primeval might that is Triunity.
