Fans of old school heavy metal take note - Castle are here to stay. Now back with perhaps their most exciting material to date Deadhand Hexagram you can rest assured - when Castle put out a seven inch you know you're in for a good time. These guys are unyielding, crafting strangely majestic music that never ceases to expand the bands sonic palate while maintaining a core sound that I think the band can confidently refer too as their own. Now as they gear up for a European run it's hard not to be impressed by what these guys have drawn together.
There is a sense of incredible might and strange new worlds that are painted with the vast soundscapes found on Deadhand Hexagram, though Castle only offer up two tracks we see these guys are already building towards an epic follow up to last years full length - the triumphant Under Siege. Now with Be My Ghost Reprise we see the band bringing in exciting new elements. the violins nicely accenting the heavy metal thunder that has defined the band for so long. Sure the main number Deadhand Hexagram is more traditional Castle fare (Which is to say Elizabeth Blackwell SLAYS it as usual) but it speaks to the profound triumph of this band.
As you dig into what this promising trio have put up to offer here it's hard to deny the dominance of Castle in our hearts and minds. These guys are heavy metal heroes for a new generation - one who long for epic guitar solos and powerful melodic lines to carry them away to a magical far away place where the sun is always shining and the air smells like warm root beer. What I'm trying to say is that Deadhand Hexagram may very well be the premier old school heavy metal seven inch this year so go fucking jam it.
