He Whose Ox Is Gored - The Camel, The Lion, The Child

There is something endlessly satisfying to me with He Whose Ox Is Gored. Their doomy tones and epic soundscapes are the kind of thing that leave dudes like me scraping our jaws from the floor. Their latest offering The Camel, The Lion, The Child is perhaps their most cerebral work with yet with powerful synth parts and crushing guitar lines coming together to create a truly heavy record. Capable of tearing apart your heartstrings He Whose Ox Is Gored have reached a new peak on this record and one that will leave you in awe for many a spin.

Part of what gets me about The Camel, The Lion, The Child is that despite the overwhelming flow of the album there is a lot of diversity to the content. There are long jams contrasted by passages defined by their use of synths. Their is a certain artistry to the architecture of the record that makes listening to it an almost cleansing experience. The human element here too is stunning. The way that the clean vocals come in and provide an almost shoegazey moment of relief from the crushing heaviness on the track Crusade is one of the albums greatest moments of triumph. All in all - this record is a triumph of modern day songwriting.

He Whose Ox Is Gored have used The Camel, The Lion, The Child to reaffirm their greatness and prove that this kind of music will always be heartbreaking - at least to nerds like me. With a gloriously diverse sound and all sorts of cool twists and turns to keep the listener engaged they have gone above and beyond on this record with jazzy moments accenting utter brutality and prog giving way to jams. He Whose Ox Is Gored understand the true power of heavy music and every moment spent with them is one you will remember.
