Monster Magnet - Cobra And Fire (The Mastermind Redux)

Who would have thought that twenty six years into their career we would still be saying that Monster Magnet are putting out some of the most exciting rock music out there? There is something ridiculously charming and potent to what the band has done on their last record Milking The Stars and now a redux of the record that came out before that, entitled Cobra And Fire (The Mastermind Redux). The point being - Monster Magnet are re-imagining what weird rock can be and it's led into one of the most exciting parts of their career.

The anthemic quality of this record allows it to create booming psychedelic soundscapes that take the listener on incredible sonic trips. Expanding upon certain ideas and diminishing others Cobra And Fire (The Mastermind Redux) feels distinctly fresh and exciting. The organic power of these songs, the way they ebb and flow and simply speak to the listener is stunning and endlessly interesting. Every part of this record simply makes sense and it leads to a record that you fall back into listening too again and again, because while yes, it can be challenging it also is strangely comforting and hard to fully relinquish.

At the end of the day - yeah it would be nice to hear new Monster Magnet material, and I'm sure that's going to happen in the near future - but for now I'm more than content with what the band have to offer on this record, and if they keep re-imagining things this way I gotta say I'll be pretty stoked. The fact of the matter is that at this point in their careers Monster Magnet can do whatever the fuck they want and we should feel blessed that they are spending their time to create something as fresh and potent as this!
