The thing is - despite how silly some of these songs can be (Goblin King of the Darkstorm Galaxy I'm looking at you!) they are also utterly badass and represent the eternal power of the genre. Beyond that - these tracks represent some brilliant compositions, the record has a surprisingly tasteful flow and the vocal harmonies slot nicely on top of lush soundscapes. The band has clearly progressed as songwriters and musicians since 2013's Tales From The Kingdom of Fife. Beyond that - the storyline is brilliant and fairly easy to follow. It makes for a record that is a lot of fun to listen too and stands up to multiple spins.
Simply put - Gloryhammer are the power metal band that the scene needs. As the genre gets increasingly bloated and dull its strangely encouraging to have a group of dudes who take the piss out of it whilst executing brilliantly. Toss in a couple epic sing a long choruses and you have yourself a record that invokes the festival spirit even if you're just sitting in your basement sending emails. The point being - Gloryhammer is heavy metal at the highest and most humorous level and their music is impossible to forget.
