Mammoth Storm - Fornjot

I've always been enamored with the eternal power of doom metal and Mammoth Storm are no exception. There new record Fornjot is overwhelming, potent, and very exciting - truly doom metal for a new age. These are dudes who have given their all to metal, the mastermind of the project is also in Draconian, but now the years of hard work are paying off and showing off the true potency of Daniel Arvidsson's work. This is a doom metal that resonates with the listener and is wonderfully grandiose in scale.

It's easy to fall in love with the poetry of these songs, the crashing chords and immense soundscapes crafted on tracks like Horns of Jura are simply not of this world. The occasional moments of anthemic mastery nicely dot the more longwinded pieces and the sheer compositional genius of the record is unleashed with every passing song. As you find yourself delving into these tracks it's easy to get lost, to be enamored with the fucked up realities that Mammoth Storm paint - but that's a part of the magic. Fornjot is a doom record for the ages because it takes the droning immense power of the genre and brings it somewhere fresh.

At the end of the day - this is another wonderous addition to the doom canon. Fornjot sees Mammoth Storm bursting onto the scene fully formed, ready to crush skulls for years to come. I can honestly say - this is one of the most exciting doom projects I have heard in recent years. The raw majesty and overwhelming sense of magic that defines Fornjot resonates with the listener and proves that this is a band who are only going to get bigger. The only question is - are you ready for Mammoth Storm's sonic salvation?
