Gatecreeper - Sonoran Depravation

Gatecreeper are one of those bands who have been at the core of the Mesa death metal scene for years now and who represent something far greater in the music than many of their peers could ever dream of. Their latest offering, the incredibly bleak and wondrously destructive masterpiece that is Sonoran Depravation shows us exactly what Gatecreeper are capable of and guides you on a skull splitting of heavy metal fury. It shows us the darkest side of the genre and forces you to genuflect in honor of a band who are too heavy for words.

Sonoran Depravation sees a further development on that classic Gatecreeper sound and also proves that hardcore tinged death metal can still be punishingly effective in 2016. This is the sort of record that has the twisted attack and blaring guitars of the old school but fuses that with a modern mindset. Simply put, Sonoran Depravation is masterful. It showcases every side of the genre, it's capable of adding melodies (Shoutout to the guitarmonies!) but remaining heavy as all get out, it has a groove but also a monochromatic crush, and the growls - oh Lord the growls. This is the sound of the world coming apart. I'm not joking when I say Gatecreeper could be this generations Slayer.

Everything about this record is immaculate It's one of my favorite death metal records to come out all year and one I know I'm going to be coming back to time and tie again - and I don't even really like death metal! Sonoran Depravation is a look into something darker, something stronger than many of its peers and something that shows us a punishing future. Gatecreeper understand the fundamental essence of death metal. They have taken the genre and refined it into something flawless and powerful with a diverse set of influences that will keep you coming back.
