Black Earth - A Cryptic Howl Of Morbid Truth

Weird, dark and ambient the glorious blasphemy of Black Earth is simply not of this earth. Their offering A Cryptic Howl Of Morbid Truth initially came out back in 2015 on Graceless Recordings, but now we are about to see the release rise again, this time as a vinyl release on that glorious bay area record label Sentient ruin. One of the most truly twisted and bizarre releases I have heard in a minute and just in time for All Hallows Eve if you like weird and experimental music, then this is going to be a record you will sink your teeth into.

There is something wonderfully satanic about the disturbing noises on A Cryptic Howl Of Morbid Truth. The band taps into all manner of demons and sorcery here making for some truly frightening music. The heart wrenching ebbs and flows of tracks like The Severed Head Of The Crow speak to the true depth of the music and the grim, otherworldly soundscapes the record sinks into are mesmerizing. What's interesting though is that this is not a record trying to be spooky, it simply is. This is an album that touches into a sort of existential terror that you just aren't going to get anywhere else.

Lo fi and unapologetic, A Cryptic Howl Of Morbid Truth is at times so vested in obscura it might feel like a parody of itself if it weren't so damn honest. The weird mythologies that it taps into and the way that it delights in its own ghastly sonic sculptures is all a part of the fun. Sentient Ruin have knocked it out of the park with this one, a record that refuses to play by the rules but instead borrows from whatever obscure soundworlds it so chooses and then forces you to drown in the punishing and overwhelming evil of this music. It is impossible to look away but delicious to revel in. Spin it to understand the freakish realities within.
