"You're a much better kisser than Jesus" Yeah it's that kind of record. Twin Temple's new record Bring You Their Signature Sound... Satanic Doo-Wop is one of my favorite things I have heard all year and this is the most excited I've been about a new band in a hot minute. Delivering a unique brand of tongue in cheek 'Satanic Doo-Wop' Twin Temple have put together what is one of the most interesting records that has come across my deck in a while. These are gloriously satanic odes to sex with the dark lord and I never realized how badly I needed this in my life.
Rooted in feminism and making use of satanic imagery, Bring You Their Signature Sound... Satanic Doo-Wop is essentially what it says on the tin. It's a doo-wop record (Well sort of, it pays enough tribute to the genre that it can be credited as such) with all sorts of references to Satan. It falls directly in line with early satanic bands like Black Widow and Coven, with the closing track even being a satanic ritual. At times things feel a little bit forced or over the top, but the bands sense of humor and self awareness helps to make things engaging and fun. With powerful hooks and memorable lyrics this album stands a cut above its peers.
Rather than falling into dull tropes of women wailing in front of bearded dudes playing Orange amps, Twin Temple are focused on top notch songwriting and mesmerizing vibes. There is something wonderfully wicked about this record, and it goes deeper than the devil worship in the lyrics. The sense of subversion here and the sheer skill that the band brings to the table speaks to all that they have been able to do on this record. Bring You Their Signature Sound... Satanic Doo-Wop is a true crowd pleaser and one that manages to fuse retro vibes with a forward thinking mindset. This is definitely a band to keep an eye on.
