Eye Of The Destroyer - Baptized In Pain

I have a journalist friend who I chat with pretty much every day. One thing we always remind each other when feeling especially frustrated with the underground is that 'This scene is a death sentence.' In so many ways it is. I t can feel like year after year being a part of the metal underground just manages to somehow get worse, become more stressful and less rewarding. It's not an easy way to be. But sometimes you manage to find a way to create content and meaning that goes above and beyond. That allows the bands to reach a brave new height and give us meaning.

Eye of the Destroyer are the kind of band who give us meaning. With major lineup changes marking their new album, Baptized In Pain it's thrilling to see this band really kick it up a notch and take on the next level. They reflect all that is unholy about the Jersey underground and manage to drive this music to a whole new level. Eye of the Destroyer have come together to put together something that is so far beyond anything they did previously as to make you wonder if it's the same band. They have taken their brand of hard hitting, hardcore inspired slam and sexed it up. There is something undeniably addictive about Baptized In Pain and it speaks to a band who have transcended.

It's hard not to be swept up in the infectious raise and jubilant blasphemy of Baptized In Pain. This is a record that reeks of heavy metal madness, swirling up distorted mosh pits and driving towards ever bleaker pastures. It's a record that has evil in its very pores and whose inherent madness is impossible not to love. Eye of the Destroyer get to the very core of their being with this one and it is delicious. The band has finally put together their incredible potential and it suggests to me that they have so much more coming to bash in your face.
