This is straight up one of the most technically impressive black metal records that I have ever heard. Suhnopfer have been on my radar since high school with their high powered brand of black metal. This offering though seems to see the band take this sound to bold new heights. Now, blinded by the lights I am in simple awe of Hic Regnant Borboni Manes an album that continually has me scraping my jaw off the floor. Conceptual, deep and at times terrifying, the band manages to take their craft somewhere completely new this time around.
I mean sure, Suhnopfer had been building up to something like this for years and you have to give credit where credit is due, but this is really a stunner. The overwhelming power and glory of these tracks is at times too much to handle. while yes it makes for some very dense listening that's a huge part of what makes Hic Regnant Borboni Manes such a rewarding listen. This is a record that continually drives to new heights and has the listener completely fascinated with what's going on here. There is a pure and potent desperation guiding the madness behind Suhnopfer and it leaves me begging for more.
Hic Regnant Borboni Manes is a black metal record that is overpowering in its scope. The grandeur behind it and grandiose flourishes that continue to make it such a banger are truly thrilling. There aren't a lot of black metal records out there that have me so readily scraping my jaw off of the floor, but alas. Hic Regnant Borboni Manes is truly masterful. It shows a band who are ready to dive into the darkest parts of the human psyche and come back with some sort of demented trophy, it's truly next level black metal.
