It's crazy to think that Toxic Holocaust has been around for twenty years. Crazier still is the fact that Primal Future: 2019 is the bands first record in six years. Just as vibrant, exciting and over the top as ever, Toxic Holocaust bring it hot and heavy on this latest offering, one of their most potent and fun releases to date. With gang vocals and hard hitting riffs this is the sort of hyper angular thrash that we all fell in love with in the first place. Growing on the bands classic sound without giving up any of the classic tropes, this is a helluva listen.
In fact that's one of the things that gets me the most about Primal Future: 2019. While Toxic Holocaust would have been within their rights to just regurgitate past madness, this album actually sees some huge steps forward. So yes, while there certainly are a lot of retro elements (After all - just look at that artwork) Toxic Holocaust also are able to operate on the cutting edge of thrash metal. This is a fun listen and one that continues to reward the listener well after the first spin. If you want something stripped down, vicious and very aware of the magic of thrash in 2019 then this is the album for you.
Wonderfully tight and trimmed down to be lean and mean Primal Future: 2019 will destroy minds and reap souls. This is an over the top record with self awareness. It might be one of the craziest things I have heard in a while but that is a key part of what makes them such a compelling band to listen too. They haven't missed a pace since 2013's Chemistry of Consciousness and in fact have only gotten better. So get ready to dive into the pit - it's another thrash metal party and we're all waiting for you!
