It's been six years since their debut full length. But Ordinance are back. This latest offering, In Purge There Is No Remission is utterly sick. It's black metal at its finest, satanic, heavy fast and unrelentingly eager to go for the throat. In this record we find a band who are plowing forward with a sense of evil and domination that can't help but to capture the imagination. this is a band who reflect the bitter unreality of the black metal scenes and their eloquent compositions and gnashing viciousness only serve to prove it.
It's hard not to be entranced with the raw violence of the album opener, 'Obstructed Paths'. The fact of the matter is that the madness only expands from there .Listeners find themselves cast out upon barren hellscapes, embracing the twisted madness and reveling in the murk. This is what black metal is meant to be about - examining the deepest evils existing inside of you and then acknowledging and growing with them. Ordinance are masterful in their execution here. The bombast of a track like 'Diabolopathia' is so much fun to sink your teeth into and really speaks to how talented Ordinance are and how special this project is.
In Purge There Is No Remission is really a record that you can get lost in. It's surprisingly intricate with layers eagerly interweaving upon themselves. There are elements to the composition here that really sets the band apart and the deeper I dig the more I am enamored. While Ordinance may be focused on playing what is very much a more orthodox style of black metal, they are still a pleasure to experience and drowning in their tormented waves of sound is a treat for black metal fans of all stripes. This is true satanic black metal. All hail.
