Draconian - Under A Godless Veil

Wow - now this is a stunner. Draconian have always been a special band, but this latest offering form the death doom masters, Under A Godless Veil is a step beyond anything the band has done in the past. A huge step forward and a perfect indicator of just how good this band has become in the years long gap since their last masterwork. Few bands have the same magic of Draconian and their unholy poetry has long captured the imagination of the longhaired masses. This latest offering is a thrilling and dynamic step forward for the band.

The goth doom of Draconian has become all the more powerful as the band become better at injecting their second vocalist, Heike Langhans. This is her second release with the band and it sees her executing at a much higher level. It's always good when you can tell that sense of integration has really come to a head and it makes for some thrilling listening. Under A Godless Veil comes at a crucial point in the bands history - it proves that they can build on the work of their past and evolve it into something far more grandiose and powerful. It is a masterful offering that routinely leaves listeners scraping their jaws off the floor.

Under A Godless Veil is an exciting offering and one that I am eager to be continually coming back too. Draconian have shown once more that they are among the best in their class of death doom and to engage deeply with their magic is to fall in love with the transcendence and glory of their art. The band prove that they are masters of modern day tropes and eagerly bring in elements of their own. Tracks like 'Claw Marks On The throne' prove that there are endless layers to what Draconian do and it will only get better from here.
