Phantasmagorical Personification Of The Death Temple now THAT is an album name if there ever was one. Anarkhon have unleashed one of the most devastating records of the year to date in conspiracy with Debemur Morti Productions. It's an oppressive and terrifying offering that trades heavily in crushing guitar tones and guttural, punishing vocals. The end result is a record that borders on the insane, unleashing a sort of nightmarish death metal masterpiece perhaps most reminiscent of acts like Portal or Ulcerate in terms of sheer mind crushing brutality.
This Brazilian death legion emerge from one of the cities that started it all Sao Paulo. While their sound is much more evolved than groups like Sarcofago and Sepultura who first emerged from the vaunted city, it's still cool to hear how they unveil their own brand of mind crushing death metal. The songs here are vast, multi part epics, even the shortest tracks. The ability to conjure up devastating atmospheres is delightful and fascinating. The breadth and fury of a composition like 'Assuming The Grotesque Form Of The Nightmare' is wonderfully oppressive and will leave you gasping for air, desperate to understand what comes next from these bloodthirst bile merchants.
Anarkhon have gone above and beyond on Phantasmagorical Personification Of The Death Temple. It's a record that is vast in its scope and which seems to continually impress with unexpected twists and turns that throw you right into the pit. It's the sort of skull melting magic that keeps nerds like me totally obsessed with a ban dand desperately curious about where their unholy blasphemies will take them next. Phantasmagorical Personification Of The Death Temple is a goddamn monster of an album. Once you immerse yourself it's impossible to get out.
