Nodfyr - Eigenheid

What better way to start your week than with a promo from the always excellent Van Records? I'm digging in today to the latest from Nodfyr, Eigenheid. This crushing new record is an epic metal tribute to their homeland decorated with folk instruments and melodies, impressive guest performances and an overarching sense that Nodfyr are tapping into something truly special. Eigenheid is a masterful and bombastic offering that will capture the imagination. It's a release with a wide scope and a sense of tradition that is truly delectable.

There are many wonderful layers to the music of Nodfyr. Their symphonic take on epic metal is exciting. The band don't limit themselves too much by subgenre with moments of trad, doom and even black metal shining through. What's more important here is the overarching vibe, the sense of culture and the willingness to look back into what made this music so special in the first place. Eigenheid trades heavily on the baritone vocals of their lead singer. He helps imbue the music with a sense of power that I think many of the bands peers lack. The grandiose vibes conjured up only serve to make this all the more rewarding an offering.

Eigenheid is a thrilling and majestic record that is going to keep you coming back. If you are seeking to understand just another small piece of Dutch history and to celebrate a culture rapidly being forgotten, then this is the album for you. The songwriting is excellent, the performances top notch and the overall atmosphere that Nodfyr have conjured up here is simply delightful. These potent ministrations will capture the imagination any way you slice it. Dive in and embrace the medieval poetry of this band. You won't regret it.
