Rebecca Lou - Heavy Metal Feelings

It's always interesting when a metal person puts out a pop record. Such is the case with Rebecca Lou, whose latest offering, Heavy Metal Feelings is a dark and empowering pop record with gorgeous production and a clear vision for the future. It's a delight to really sink your teeth into the magic of this record and experience the dark emotions that really help to turn it into an offering that speaks to the soul. Heavy Metal Feelings is a potent record that builds on classic tropes to make something that is addictive and a whole boatload of fun.

Immersing yourself in the magic of a track like 'Twin Flame' with its massive chorus and larger than life imagery is a delight. It speaks to the breadth of the songwriting and the overarching vision that helps to make this such a compelling album. The top tier production shines throughout this record. The drum sounds in particular are amazing, nice and compressed making for a punchy rhythm section that allows the whole thing to thrum with life. It's a record that leans into its darkest imaginings but which comes out guiding the listener through some of the hardest times in life, giving us all hope for a better tomorrow full of hope.

So while there may be no truly heavy metal moments musically on this record, and honestly not many truly metal feeling moments, this is still a bombastic triumph full of beautiful bangers. The point of this album isn't to reinvent the steel, but rather to be a mesmerizing pop offering that really profits from the darkness that a musical background in the world of punk and heavy metal can provide. This is a fun offering any way you slice it and once that might very well guide you through the night. Letting yourself really experience it is a delight.
