Lynx - Watcher Of Skies

Ok this is a fun one. Lynx understand the fundamental magic of rock and roll, and their late 70s/early 80s retro sound is full of classic rock elements and nods to a time forgot. They are exactly the sort of band who make labels like No Remorse Records so good and are a fitting addition to the New Wave Of True Heavy Metal. The band have really tapped into something wonderfully authentic here and embracing it is more than worth your while as you dig ever deeper into the layers that Lynx have come to represent.

Watcher Of Skies may not have many surprises, but that's kind of the point. This is a band who very clearly worship at the altar of bands like Scorpions and Bostons but do it with that stripped down Angel Witch-esque production that really helps to gel the whole thing together and consistently prove that Lynx are a force to be reckoned with. Watcher Of Skies is a masterful offering any way you slice it, and though the reliance on tropes may be heavy handed at times - that's a huge part of the appeal. This is a band who will take you on wild rides through 1980s cityscapes as you drink whiskey, blast synth driven rock and party.

Lynx have done a great job in paying tribute to an era here and I get the impression that this record will translate wonderfully on the big stage. Watcher Of Skies is a guaranteed good time and the more time I spend with it the more I see what a labor of love it has been this whole time. This is hard rock done right, fun, powerful and more than a little over the top. Letting yourself enjoy the magic is something you owe yourself as a fan of the classics. Immerse yourself in punchy riffs and angular playing - this record is a delight.
