Consumption - Necrotic Lust

As I discussed in yesterdays review, the current batch of Swedish death metal bands are truly excellent. The latest offering in this twisted cycle comes from Consumption. Their new album, Necrotic Lust, due out end of August, is an absolute monster of an album a record that goes so far in its 90s death metal worship as to have the legendary Jeff Walker of Carcass coming on guest vocals. The end result is timeless death grind that will keep fans of the underground engaged and excited, enthralled with the power of a band who so easily ape their musical forefathers.

Necrotic Lust is a monster any way you slice it. It's a record that taps directly into so many classic tropes of the OSDM genre and which is unashamed of wearing its influences on its sleeve. The end result is a record that is a bonafide mosh pit starter, an absolute firecracker of a release that will inspire listeners across the globe to dive straight into the pit. This is death metal done right, with a desire to slit your throat and keep you moshing. Consumption have gone above and beyond on this offering, and the end result is another gem in the storied Hammerheart Records catalog. It makes for inspiring and thrilling listening no matter how you slice it.

Consumption are clearly on the verge of doing something truly special. Their love for Necroticism era Carcass remains obvious, but that's a huge part of the fun. They have a deep understanding of the genre and it's a delight to hear them slicing and dicing it up for 9 blasting tracks. While Consumption may not be packing a bunch of surprises, they are a band who deliver on their promise of 90s death metal worship, and capture the imagination with aplomb.
