Verberis are back, and their brand new album Adumbration of the Veiled Logos is another goddamn stunner any way you slice it, full of bleak imagery, tormented sounds and generally throat slitting execution. This is true black metal as it stands in 2022. It's worth noting that their label, Norma Evangelium Diaboli has been making a big play in the last few years to separate themselves as one of the best black metal labels in the game right now. Adumbration of the Veiled Logos is just another gem in their blasphemous crown.
Adumbration of the Veiled Logos is certainly a highly cerebral release, a record that really rewards multiple listens as you attempt to penetrate the layers of black metal misery and the swirling power of these compositions. Verberis have found a path for themselves in the twisted underground between layers of churning madness and black metal orthodoxy. The end result is an offering that will leave listeners in awe of the darkness that has been invoked. This is black metal executed with a desire to rip out throats, no matter what happens. The furious assault, and blend of compositional styles that defines this record speaks to their talent as musicians.
This is a bleak record that will impress even the most jaded of fans. The epic 20 minute closer, "I Am The Father And The Tomb Of The Heavens" is about as high concept and well executed as any 20 minute track in black metal ever has been. It speaks to their impressive skill that they can wrap it all together in one epic fusion. Letting yourself get lost in the darkness and immersing yourself in the burning fight that is this record is a delight.
