Pure German black metal is a unique creation, full of bombast and epic compositions. The larger than life ministrations that Pestlegion bring to the table on their new album Sathanas Grand Victoria are absolutely thrilling. There is a breadth to the vision of this band and a beauty behind their execution that I think is going to keep people coming back time and time again. This is black metal done right, with a heart full of blasphemy and a vision of crafting a darker, more unforgiving world. Getting lost in its twisted vision is a delight.
Pestlegion have gone above and beyond to craft something truly stunning on this new record. The production is immaculate, with every instrument perfectly finding its place in the mix and capturing the imagination with larger than life compositions. Tracks like "The Potal" and "Enstage Gott" transport listeners across frostbitten monochromatic landscapes into dark forests of lightning blasted trees and poisoned wells. Not only that, but at it's best Sathanas Grand Victoria is absolutely anthemic. The shoutalong moments are half unexpected, but a worthy match throughout the album, bringing it to a new level of torment.
Sathanas Grand Victoria is a stunner. With their first new material in 4 years Pestlegion manage to make a gigantic step up, and move things forward in a meaningful way. It's rare to hear a record with this level of aplomb in the execution and it's a delight to really immerse yourself in the snarling sorcery that Pestlegion have conjured up. This is black metal done in the grand old style, dedicated to leaving you lost in a blizzard, gasping for air. Pestlegion are a one of a kind force in the underground and immersing yourself in their darkness is a demented pleasure.
