Anarkhon - Ogiasot Dwybat Ptnotun

Crushingly heavy. Unending misery. Anarkhon's new album Ogiasot Dwybat Ptnotun is a monster of an album, a masterpiece of oppressive, psychedelic and horrific death metal. One glance at the cover art is enough to tell you that this album is a beast apart. Just look at the song titles for for further confirmation, "The Devourer Of Eons Manipulates The Inanimated Puppet Called Man" or "The Colossal Deformed Hallucination Distort And Violates The State Of Entropy". This isn't exactly death metal for the faint hearted.

However - if you're the kind of person obsessed with bands like Gorguts and looking for a soundtrack to your cosmic Lovecraftian nightmares, then these Brazilians have created something for you. It's impressive to hear a band who 23 years in are still able to unleash death metal that is this horrifying and multilayered. The record is a stunner any way you slice it, the animalistic sounds and skull crushing riffage that shape the album is delightful, a testament to the terrifying might that Anarkhon bring to the table. The production too is absolutely massive, how else can you describe a sound that forces listeners to get lost in it.

While Ogiasto Dwybat Ptnotun is certainly not an easy listen, it is a record that is going to keep you interested for a long time. It's an album that really grasps the twisted message of the genre and with its gnarled compositions can't help but to thrill. It's death metal done with a taste for blood and a vision of a bleak future. It speaks to the continuing churning violence of this music and encourages listeners to really relish the madness that has been painted before us. Anarkhon have crafted something deranged and violating. You need it in your life.
