Spinebreaker is a Bay Area death metal super group of sorts. Featuring members of Sunami, Ripped to Shreds, Gulch and Dead Heat, the band has quickly established a reputation as a death metal force whose influence draws heavily from the 1990s scene. Since forming in 2013 they have established a reputation as a truly special group who understand the old school attitude and initially brought otgetherm usicians who would go on to have success in other projects. Cavern Of Inoculated Cogniation is the harrow next chapter in their work as Spinebreaker.
There is something wonderfully addictive about this devastating EP. It's a record that is unrelentingly heavy and which leans eagerly into the darkest aspects of the scene. Cavern OF Inoculated Cognition shines because of how devastatingly heavy the band manages to be and the crippling assault that they unleash time and time again. Despite having not released any music since 2019, the band gels together once more in a wonderfully monstrous way, on a record defined by violence. Far more death metal inspired than many of their previous offerings, this gives tou a sense of exaclty what they have been listening too while on the road.
Cavern of Inoculated Cognition is an absolute monster of a record and I sincerely hope it finds a way to really sink into the larger scene. Spinebreaker have long been masters of this genre and the death metal underground needs to be more excited about them. Perhaps now after years of relative silence, this latest offering is going to get folks aware of just how wonderfully twisted and darkly visionary the Spinebreaker oeuvre is.
