Darkened have fascinated me for a while now. This international projects take on abrasive and crushing death metal is entrancing. Their new EP, Lord Of Sickness And Bile is barely over 10 minutes long and only two songs, but it's definitely worth a few plays. Benefiting from gorgeous production, top notch guitar playing and some surprisingly big choruses it's hard not to be enamored with what Darkened have created here. This is death metal done right, with a taste for the old school to be sure, but unafraid to embrace more modern visions of the genre. The melodies are suitably epic and the vocals wonderfully gnarled. Each track on this album is a cohesive multipart epic, despite never straying over the 6 minute mark. It makes for wonderfully compelling listening that will keep you coming back.
