Finsterforst - Jenseits

One of the things that came out of COVID that I don't think we talk enough about is the incredibly ambitious records. Jenseits, the latest from Finsterforst is one such album. A super ambitious and broad sweeping work, Jenseits showcases the band at their finest, with post black metal influences and cinematic production complimenting black and folk metal roots. It makes for compelling listening and speaks to the enduring impressive power of what Finsterforst have been able to carve out before all of us over the last 19 years.

Finsterforst make a concerted effort to draw listeners deep into this album. It's hard not to be impressed with the vision they present. Tracks like "Dualitaet" are larger than life and have a sort of classical music inspired grandiosity to them. These are songs that you can completely immerse yourself in and the depth of the production seems to only grow more impressive with repeat listens. Jenseits sees Finsterforst taking their sound to bold new places and letting yourself really experience the bombast of this record is far too much fun. These songs understand how powerful they are and it's easy to fall in love with the vision they present.

Emotional, dynamic and spiritually empowering, Jenseits is a record that I think will become a favorite from the Finsterforst catalog. It's a record that builds on so much of the bands potent and ambitious history. It's a record that points consistently towards a bolder and transcendent future for this project. Jenseits gives Finsterforst almost a whole new raison d'etre and letting yourself really experience this album is to let yourself experience what could be the future of black metal. Prepare for this thing to make waves when it drops in September.
